Supernatural Deployments

Supernatural...

The first time it happened was on Christmas Eve, 2011.

We left central Texas and started heading north toward my husband’s hometown. A four-and-a-half-hour drive ahead.

After about three hours, it started to snow. Our brother-in-law had warned us about the weather, but we wanted to visit family that holiday, so we kept going, thinking we would get there safely.

Then ice, wind, and snow started to make it increasingly treacherous to move and harder to see the road ahead. We were caught smack dab in a blizzard.

A barely visible sign read “Windthorst 10 miles”. We passed several vehicles parked by the side of the road, unoccupied. Where were the drivers? Then we saw a truck, a car, and a few people around them. They were trying to tie chains to the bumpers of each vehicle. We figured the truck was supposed to pull the smaller car out of the accumulated snow around it.

My husband and my son decided to stop and help. Leaving our truck, they walked up to the scene. I watched the maneuvers in front of me. The car was pulled out, and its driver waved thankfully at the group of helpers as he slowly drove on.

A few minutes later, we were resuming our own drive. My husband put our truck on drive and gently stepped on the accelerator, but the wheels had no traction on the snow. We were stuck.

Other cars and trucks kept passing us by. We called 911. They told us they could not help us, and all tow trucks were unavailable too.

A Sheriff’s truck, taking a few stranded motorists, went by. We were on our own.

It was about 4 pm. The forecast for that night was 10 degrees. My husband made an executive decision: “We are not going to spend the night in this truck. We are going to walk to the next town.”

We got our carry-ons and started our walk north on 281 towards Windthorst. We walked about 200 to 300 hundred yards, thinking: "Oh Lord, this is crazy."

A red SUV appeared as we were about to reach the point where Highway 16 merged with 281. A man wearing a cowboy hat asked us if we needed a ride into town. He knew our answer, as he got the liftgate open and helped us get our luggage in.

The cowboy driver dropped us off at the Fire Station in Windthorst, where we joined a few other rescued drivers.

That was a Christmas Eve to remember. We had warm food and played games. We were in touch with our families and let them know we were safe and sound. Later that evening, one of the firefighters on duty took a few of us to his home, where we spent the night.

By morning, the sun was shining. Back at the Fire Station, we all had Christmas breakfast together and played more games as we got word help was on the way.

We exchanged phone numbers and emails and said goodbye to everyone, grateful for the great time we spent together on that Christmas holiday. The firefighters gave us rides back to our vehicles, and a local farmer pulled us out of the snowy banks with his big tractor.

And that was the first time it happened.

The second time was last Sunday. May 7th, 2023.

We drove to our church, then visited my husband’s mother and family in north Texas.

On the way back, we stopped at a gas station just north of Waco, along I-35 South. We went to the restroom, then filled the tank up.

But the truck would not start. It was dead. My husband looked at me and said: “Oh, what is going on here?” He opened the hood latch, got out, and tried to find what was wrong. It was not the battery. So, what could it be?

It was about 10 pm. Not a good time to be out at a gas station. We said a prayer.

On the other side of our fuel pump, a truck pulled up. The driver got out and asked my husband if we needed help. They talked and looked under the hood, pondering whether the problem might be with the starter. Then the man got under the left wheel and asked my husband to start the truck.

And it started!

I saw my husband thanking him, shaking his hand.

On the way home, I found out the man had wiggled a wire to the starter under the truck. How did he know just what to do?

My husband also asked the stranger his name and told him we would pray for him.

Chris. His name was Chris. As we saw him drive off ahead of us, we watched his truck and prayed, in Jesus’ Name, thanking God and asking Him to bless that stranger who came to our rescue at the right time at a gas station on a Sunday night.

So, I have a question for you:

Can you remember when someone helped you

just when you needed it most?

Just remember: That someone was supernaturally deployed by God.

An angel?

Who knows?

God only knows.

Matthew 25:35–45

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Romans 12:13

When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.

Hebrews 13:2

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.

Psalm 91:11

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Matthew 24:31

And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
