Should Christians forgive?
To understand what forgiveness truly means, it is necessary to understand what truth is.
Some people claim their truth is the truth. How do they know? They just choose to claim their perception of the facts as their truth, and, therefore, they swear by it.
To wear the banner of truth as one perceives it is a dangerous path. It can cause misunderstanding, conflict, and, ultimately, chaos. It is a path permeated with false perceptions, misconceptions, and unforgiveness.
Why should Christians forgive? Because God has forgiven them first.
So, is there still unforgiveness in your heart?
If there is, examine yourself. Are you seeing the truth about the facts or just what you believe to be your truth? Are you choosing to hold on to unforgiveness to justify your self-pity and remain stuck in the victim/orphan mentality? Are you still blaming others for your failures or lack of discipline? Wallowing in envy and jealousy but doing nothing to fulfill the dreams God wants you to fulfill?
The crux of the matter is:
Have you accepted Jesus' forgiveness through His blood on the cross?
If so, you need to grow in Christ and put on the royal robe that belongs to the children of God!
No longer a victim, no longer an orphan: you are forgiven, adopted, and accepted.
Rejoice! Delight yourself in the Lord, our Father! Heed to the Holy Spirit who dwells in you!
You are the temple of God. Soldier of God. Child of God. Empowered by Him to glorify Him.
If the love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit cannot empower your heart to forgive, then you have NOT allowed Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior!
To reconcile with the ones who hurt you is not always possible. But to forgive is mandatory, a hallmark of a true Christian.
Thus, are you a Christian?
Then start to live free of the hurts and offenses that have enslaved you. Live in the truth of the Lord, and the truth will set you free at all times.
Be happy! Move on, press onward towards the finish line. Redemption draws near. Prepare, as a bride who awaits the Groom. He is coming soon to rapture His church. Do not be left behind!
Should Christians forgive? Yes! Always. For it is God's love in us that empowers us to forgive!
Colossians 3:12-17 (New King James Version)
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
